Tomoko Konno’s sculptures are notable for their imagery of germinating and budding forms of life. Delicate yet bold, these vibrant and eccentric shapes reveal the artist’s philosophy of pursuing the quintessential beauty of life. The influence of her studies of textiles is also evident in the relationships of color, material, and form in her work. Having worked in Hong Kong, Tokoname (Aichi Prefecture), and Indonesia, Konno’s ceramics express what she felt, noticed, and retained spiritually in these places. An installation of her work inspired by her many encounters in Shigaraki are on display.
