An exhibition of sculptural pieces and installation work by textile artist Chie Sakai. In her “Fast Fashion Series” Sakai reconsiders our relationship with clothes in Kobe, a city where she spent her childhood years admiring various fashion designers.
Chie Sakai reflects on clothes which are plentiful and cheap, becoming cheaper as they become plentiful, and that are disposed of on a daily basis. She takes clothes without design, fabrics which are poorly constructed or contain monotonous patterns, clothes that have fallen off the hanger and have been swept aside: clothes she feels are under-appreciated, and constructs exciting new forms by sewing them together.
