This event has ended.

Yamato-e is a traditional form of Japanese elegantly depicting the lives of people within the four seasons. It has a long, rich history dating back to the Tosa School beginning in the Muromachi period (1336–1573), with extensions into the Kanno School of the Momoyama Period (1568 – 1600) and through the Edo period (1603 – 1868). Notable artists include Mitsuoki (1617–1691), who skillfully incorporated ink paining and Chinese-style painting into his works. This exhibition marking the 400th anniversary of Mitsuoki’s birth presents 50 Tosa school paintings, including works by Mitsuoki and his disciples capturing the sophisticated Japanese sensibility of modern Yamato-e.
