The peaceful mid-eighteenth century Edo Era saw an influx of caricature style paintings. Among the great variety of works, the Toba-e style images born in Osaka were published as picture books and tremendously popular. This exhibition introduces the very essence of these humorous Toba-e style caricature paintings that greatly contributed to the comedy culture of Osaka.
