poster for Ken Takakura Retrospective

This event has ended.

Ken Takakura appeared in 205 films, leaving his mark on an entire era of yakuza films and acting in many famous and high-profile works. In his later years, he was the actor that Japanese moviegoers most wanted to see. In this exhibition, we look back at his work as a film actor, including his appearances in works by Tadanori Yokoo and Daido Moriyama.
This exhibition’s foremost feature is its presentation of Takakura scenes extracted from all 205 of his films. In addition, Otani Memorial Art Museum brings together rare items including scripts and props owned by Takakura, as well as still photographs, posters, and press sheets. Visitors can retrace the path taken by an extraordinary film actor with great screen presence whose career developed along with his times.
