This event has ended.

Satoru Shoji is known for his installation works using textiles, such as the "Space made by Red Cloth" series. However, Shoji used a different material for "Things and People", exhibited at the Tokyo Art Museum during May 10-30, 1970. Two types of works were present; Thirty sheets of Mainichi newspapers painted in red except one square area, and micro copies of Asahi newspapers. In this exhibition, the former will be on display.
The newspapers used contain coverage on the Vietnam war, hi-jack by the Japanese Red Army, Osaka's gas explosion accident, and controversy surrounding the World Expo. By creating art from papers that contain these events, the newspapers are taken out of context and become materials to make art. Shoji created this concept of "Things and People", amidst the turbulent times in the 1970s.
