"The Modern Export Craft: Kyoto's Shippou" Exhibition
The Museum of Kyoto
This event has ended.
Shippou was the prime of craft that was exported from Japan, and was very popular in Europe for its beautiful surface. During the mid-Meiji era, many stores carried Shippou, but the numbers diminished to only one "Inaba Shippou" by the end of the era. The Inaba Shippou, unfortunately, was recently demolished and items that were under possession were donated to Kyoto prefecture. The exhibition features works that were donated and the narratives surrounding them.
*Exhibiting at the Special Exhibition area in the History Exhibition room
