Chuichi Konno "Landscapes Within"
Nara Prefectural Complex of Manyo Culture
This event has ended.
Chuichi Konno was born in 1915 in Yamagata prefecture. After moving to Tokyo, he followed his masters Kibo Kodama and Senjin Goukura. His art career started to bloom after his "Fruits Garden" (1940) painting was awarded at an art competition. After WWII, he focused on landscape paintings, especially those that depicted mountains. His strong dedication towards mountains resulted in establishing a new genre for Japanese painting. In his latter years, he became an arts professor at Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, and Tohoku University of Art & Design. For this exhibition, there will be 35 works representative of his style that are from the Tendo City Museum of Art and Saku Municipal Museum of Modern Art collections. This will be the first retrospective of Konno's work that is held in Kansai.
