As a student, Helmut Schmid received design education in Switzerland during the 1960s, which was also when the theory of typography was established. After his burgeoning career all over Europe, he currently works in Osaka as a designer and continues to influence the international typography scene.
Meanwhile, the students at University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf’s Design Department have continued to research on the history of contemporary typography. In 2003, they initiated a research project on Schmid called "Schmid Today," and as a result of their work they presented a book and exhibition called "Design is Attitude." In addition, they have compiled a digital archive of Schmidt's works. The exhibition has toured Korea, Switzerland, Germany and Tokyo and has attracted much attention.
The exhibition will feature works from the touring exhibition as well as original works by Schmid himself.
