"Surrealism: the Mysterious Journey" Exhibition
Himeji City Museum of Art
This event has ended.
What is reality? In response to this question, Surrealism faced the mysteries found in reality. In the early 20th century, Surrealism was established by artists in Paris and the movement eventually spread worldwide.
Surrealism roots from questioning how we can release ourselves from our rational mind. Since our mind is divided into reality/imagination, consciousness/unconsciousness, routine/dream, and civilization/primitive, Surrealism's goal was to unite these segmentations and to discover the complete. This exhibition features about 130 pieces of Surrealist work. To create a better understanding of Surrealism, the exhibition is composed of several sections:
"Introduction: Welcome to Surrealism", "Part 1: Beyond Consciousness", "Part 2: Darkness in the Mind", "Part 3: Perspectives in Dreams", and "Part 4: Seeking the Innocent Image".
