At Kobe City Koiso Memorial Museum of Art
Media: Painting

Takeji Fujishima (1867-1943), a prominent western-style painter during Japanese modernism, taught his successors at an art school in Tokyo. Among his students was Ryohei Koiso (1903-88), who became a notable painter that represented the Showa period. After WWII, he became a professor at Tokyo Art University and nurtured up-and-coming artists much like how Fujishima taught him.
The exhibition, which will coincide with the 15th anniversary of the museum, will display works by the two painters. Approximately 130 works will be on display and will provide an opportunity to reflect upon modern day painting in Japan.
