John Burningham Exhibition
Daimaru Museum Umeda
This event has ended.
John Burningham, a recipient of the Kate Greenaway award with "Borka: The Adventures of a Goose with no Feathers", has produced many illustrated books throughout his career.
Maurice Sendak, author of "Where the Wild Things Are," and Raymond Briggs, the author of "the Snowman" have looked up to Burningham. From Bolka who has a hard time fitting in, to a girl who is bullied and a boy who hates school, the protagonists of Burningham's narratives are children and or characters that we see in everyday life. These characters also manifest the author's experiences as a person.
In 2007, John Burningham will celebrate his 71st birthday. With his newest novel, "Edwardo the Horriblest Boy in the Whole Wide World" released in 2006, Burningham maintains a steady pace of releasing illustrated books.
The exhibition, in conjunction with Burningham's 45th year in his career, includes works from Bolka, "Mr. Gumpy's Outing," and other works including "Granpa."
