The Mimpei ceramic was invented during the latter Edo period, around 1820 in Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture. The creator, Mimpei Kashu was inspired by Shuhei Ogata's (a Kyoto-based ceramicist) works and replicated and fused Kyo-yaki's color schemes and designs, along with designs from lacquer ware. Currently, the Mimpei ceramic is known for its fusion of diverse styles and wide variety. The exhibition features works from Osaka, Kyoto and Edo.
