"The World of Engraving: How Ukiyoe is Made" Exhibition

Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum - Museum of Osaka Prints

This event has ended.

Ukiyoe is created through a three-part process involving the draftsman, engraver and printer. The engraver and printer use highly sophisticated techniques and produce beautiful colors and lines on the prints.
The prints created in Osaka during the Edo period commonly depict Kabuki theater actors based in Dotonbori. By using multiple plates for each color, the depicted actors wear costumes with a vibrant feel.
The exhibition focuses on the role of plates within the process of making Ukiyoe.
