In this series using a fish motif, Nakajima repeatedly painted and scraped off the paint, as if he were pursuing the shape of truth. During his creative process for abstract works he depends solely on his impulses and intuitions. But he then pauses and takes a step back, looking afresh at the painting, before he finalizes its form. Although his approaches in the artworks appear to contradict each other, his core idea remains constant.
