Shiko Munakata (1903-1975) created works inspired by his hometown, Aomori prefecture and Buddhism, and played a vital role in the Japanese Mingei folk art movement alongside Muneyoshi Yanagi and Kanjiro Kawai. His work, colorful and dynamic, has been praised internationally and left a great mark in the history of Japanese modern art. This exhibition features Munakata's work and other folk art pieces that influenced him.
