Ms. Yashima's work is full of energy and dynamism. Her works are full of texture and energy, with geometric motifs permeating most of her work. Of particular interest to me is the largest piece in the exhibition, which is one of the artist's earliest works. There's a strong post-minimalist quality to the piece that I found fascinating. In the newer pieces a seemingly unbound energy communicated through color and texture is abundant and a stark contrast to her earlier work, while still linked by the geometric motifs. A series of smaller paintings also on display reflect a new direction for Ms. Yashima, as some of the works are freer and some are more violent in their coloration and texture.
