54th All Kansai Arts Exhibition

This exhibition has been taking place since 1941 and every year gathers work mainly from the Kansai region, but also as far as Shikoku and Hokuriku, selecting around 1000 pieces for entry from the more than 2000 public submissions, as well as exhibiting 300 works from invited artists.
The exhibition was formerly called the "Osaka City Exhibition" and featured Japanese painting, oil painting, sculpture and crafts. In 1949, calligraphy was added as a new category and thus the exhibition was renamed the "Kansai Integrated Arts Exhibition". The name "All Kansai Arts Exhibition" came about in 1972. Since then, the annual show has covered five art categories and has featured works by famous artists that represent the Kansai region.
This years marks the 54th exhibition, making it the longest running regional public arts exhibition.
