This event has ended.

The painter Sugimoto Tetsuro (1899-1985) copied the cave paintings in the Ajanta and Sigiriya caves from 1937 to 1938, the first foreigner to undertake this large task. After returning to Japan, he held an exhibition at the Imperial Gift Museum of Kyoto (later renamed the Kyoto National Museum), stunning his viewers, and then donated his works to the museum.
