Exhibiting ornamental combs, hairpins, and wigs from the collection of the Sawanoi Kushi Kanzashi Museum. These works, mainly from the Edo period, reveal the cultivation and transformation of Japan’s aesthetic sensibility and skill in decorative arts. Also on display are Ukiyo-e prints from the Pola Research Institute of Beauty & Culture’s collection and contemporary paintings and crafts from the Hosomi Museum. Created from an array of materials including ivory, tortoise shell, silver, gold, glass, crystal, and coral, these works decorated with motifs ranging from seasonal plants to landscapes, people, and animals introduce a stylish and elegant world of Japanese design and technology.
