Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani Retrospective
Kyoto Museum for World Peace Ritsumeikan University
This event has ended.
This exhibition explores the impact of violence and the endurance of humanity through the life and works of Japanese American artist, Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani (1920-2012), who was the subject of award-winning documentary “The Cats of Mirikitani.” Mirikitani experienced internment during World War Ⅱ, survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and spent his later years homeless, selling his art on the streets of New York. His works convey both his humor and messages for peace in spite of his hardship. Thirty pieces by Mirikitani will be on display, in addition to photographs and panels about the Tule Lake internment camp.
