The On-Matsuri, or Grand Festival of Kasuga Wakamiya Shrine, is a well-loved event highlighting the year end. Since its inception in 1135, the whole Nara populace has taken an active part in this festival, held by the Wakamiya Shrine within the Kasuga Grand Shrine complex, in honor of the child of two of its deities. This exhibition celebrates the traditions On-Matsuri through documents and materials related to the central Wakamiya deity, the procession, and festivities, accompanied by artifacts related to the worship in the Kasuga faith, providing a general survey of the spread and multi-faceted character of the Kasuga cult which supports the On-Matsuri.
