The Botanical Art of Pierre-Joseph Redouté
Takashimaya Art Gallery Kyoto
This event has ended.
Exhibition of botanical prints by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, who served as a court painter under Queen Marie Antoinette. The Belgium-born artist is renowned for having mastered the elaborate technique of stipple engraving: the use of tiny dots rather than lines to enable tone. On display will be all 144 pieces from his Choix des plus belles fleurs collection, rare early works, as well as his some of his watercolour paintings never before shown in Japan.
