Gifts of Weaponry from the Shogun and the Emperor
Hikone Castle Museum
This event has ended.
In Japanese history, weapons have had significance both on and off the battlefield. Even during the Edo Period, a long period of peace in Japan, weapons remained important as offerings to Gods, and as gifts between individuals. This exhibition focuses on the collection of weapons and armour from the Ii family who ruled over Hikone, then a fudai domain, including those offered to the family as gifts from the shogunate and the emperor himself.
