Exhibition to commemorate the 20th anniversary of post-war Nihonga artist, Yasushi Sugiyama (1909-1993). Born in Tokyo, Sugiyama garnered recognition for his groundbreaking methods of using Japanese traditional mineral pigments to depict ancient African and Middle Eastern civilizations — a subject rarely addressed in Nihonga painting. 70 works spanning Sugiyama’s career will be on display.
