“New Documents of the Sakai Magistrates”

It had long been thought that following the air raid bombings during the war the only remaining documents recording the 17th-18th century development of the Sakai principality were mere copies kept in the central library. Yet in 2006 manuscripts relating to the Hatamoto Wakasano Asano family, dating from the 18th century were discovered in Aioi, Hyogo and providing detailed accounts of the Sakai magistrate. These documents are finally brought back to Sakai after 280 years, sharing a unique opportunity to learn of the rich history of the region.
