This event has ended.

Bae Jung-Soon is an artist who expresses the development of the female body through paper, wire and jewels, developing a form of sculpture and installation around this central theme since 1987. Bae studied at Kyoto City University of Arts at the peak of the post-modernism movement, becoming one of the few artists to work with installation in Korea at the time and attracting strong attention from major galleries and commercial spaces around Seoul. Bae’s choice of washi paper as a primary medium reflects the common identity between Japan and Korea, while also taking on the qualities and appearance of human skin which ages with time, while also linking to certain positions within feminism. Bae takes on the mythology of the changing body and while motioning towards the hardship of the body also celebrates its beauty, in an approach which has deepened and matured over the years to gain a fine simplicity.
