Showa Sundays: Family Trips, Department Stores, and Movies
The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living
This event has ended.
The 1960s and 70s, now receiving attention as a retro era, were a “golden age.” It was a post-war period of rapid economic growth and societal transformation that saw the emergence of a new culture and lifestyle in which spending enjoyable times with family, friends, and romantic partners was considered important. This exhibition is not a nostalgic retrospective, but a look at how people in this era spent their Sundays. It presents documents focusing on three popular Showa pastimes: family travel, department stores, and movies.
