Paramita Museum Collection:The Work of Shiko Munakata
Museum “Eki” Kyoto
This event has ended.
Exhibition of works by eminent woodblock print artist Shiko Munakata (1903-1975). Born in Aomori, Munakata moved to Tokyo to pursue a career in painting. He took frequent visits to Kyoto, where he befriended one Yamaguchi Shigetaro, who published several of his books, including “The World of Architectural Soshokuga (Decorative Painting),” and had Munakata paint the fusuma and storerooms of his home. This exhibition seeks to present viewers with a relatively unknown side to Munakata, with a showcase of roughly 45 of his paintings and woodblock prints, which were not on display to the public until relatively recently.
