The Edo-era Ukiyoe artist Utagawa Hiroshige is known for the diversity of his style. His oeuvre includes Western paintings as well as his famed woodblock prints portraying beautiful women, landscapes, and bird and flower scenes. Creating unique worlds rooted in a modern realism yet still softly atmospheric, he balanced boldness and a fine eye for detail. Around 270 of his Ukiyoe prints are now on display. The exhibition focuses on his bird and flower pictures including the masterpiece “Moon and Wild Goose,” as well as works from his “Sakana Zukushi” fish series, and his Tokyo landmark series.
