Katazome is the art of resist dyeing where a paste is applied to textile through a washi paper stencil hardened with tannin juice called Katagami. The art form developed in the Edo Period and won great appeal in the West at the end of the 19th century. Artist Kiyoshi Tanaka has applied the katazome technique to prints, works of which from the past 40 years will be on display in this exhibition.
