This event has ended.

An exhibition to celebrate the 5th anniversary since Asago and Barbizon became Friendship Cities.
In the mid-19th century, at a time when France’s cities were experiencing industrialization and environmental degradation and the paint tube invented, painters Corot, Millet and others gathered at the town of Barbizon in North-east France. Depicting the idyllic landscapes that surrounded them, these painters drove a new artistic movement that is said to have later influenced the development of Impressionism and Realism. This exhibition showcases the works of Millet and others from the Barbizon School, and how they influenced the three prominent Japanese painters, Kumaji Aoyama, Ikunosuke Shirataki and Sanzo Wada, who went to study there in the 19th and 20th centuries.
