Hoshokan Conservation Exhibition “Touching Buddha - The Symbol of Kechien”

Byodoin Temple Museum Hoshokan

This event has ended.

The statues of Unchu Kuyo Bosatsu which are suspended upon the wall of Hoshokan were created by the studio of famed sculptor Jucho, as was the temples renowned Amida Buddha statue, in a style that allows for the appreciation of its beauty captured in changes over time. The Byodo-in has been engaged in the replication of these statues since 2004 under the supervision of statue master Kiyoshi Murakami, recovering the exquisite work with materials as close to the original as possible and learning the secret skills and touch of a craft centuries old. This exhibition showcases these replicas and allows visitors an intimate encounter which may be said to symbolize an act of coming closer to Buddha “Kechien”.
