Calo presents Kei Nagao’s first solo exhibition in roughly six years. The show focuses on small works, including watercolors and sculptures created from motifs found in the artist’s paintings. Compared to past works in which colors and lines appeared to float, “hard” forms have become a more frequent feature of Nagao’s paintings. Works from recent years seem to reference body parts of living things, which are brought together by clearly drawn outlines. Meanwhile, these outlines encroach on backgrounds and appear to unite the clashing insides and outsides of the bodies as a type of skin. This exhibition is an organic evolution of Kei Nagano’s works.
