This event has ended.

Exhibition of two pioneering contemporary print artists hailing from Ashiya City: Kumi Sagai and Takesada Matsutani. Sagai, who studied art at Osaka School of Fine Arts and went on to become a designer at Hankyu Rail Company, exhibited his work in Japan and internationally to critical acclaim particularly in the 1950s and 60s. His early images, not unlike contemporary painting at the time, depict the lyrical simplicity of rural Japan, while later works became increasingly geometric and bold in colour.
Prominent artist Matsutani, who has been active in the Gutai movement since the 60s, currently resides in Paris. His highly-recognized works are characterized by the use of vinyl wood glue, bold colours and lines.
