Footsteps of Beauty— Paris, Rome, and Florence in 1952
Insho Domoto Museum of Fine Arts
This event has ended.
Insho Domoto spent six months in 1952 traveling in Europe with his nephew, Hisao Domoto. While based mainly in Paris, they also visited cities including Rome and Florence. They made pilgrimages to historic ruins and other landmarks, but what struck Insho Domoto most was the rich scenery of local areas, of which he made many sketches. Upon returning to Japan, he published a book of illustrations, “Footsteps of Beauty— A European Art Journey.” This exhibition presents works created during this trip as well as those inspired by it afterwards. Elegant sketches of European landscapes, pen drawings, oil paintings, and other works are on display. Come experience the scenery and the encounter with a foreign culture that opened the door to new forms of expression for Domoto.
