This event has ended.

With a career spanning half a century Saburo Murakami has engaged numerous materials, forms and processes yet each of his works is steeped in the act of formulating a relationship with the world. Murakami has worked across installation, conceptual art and painting, in which to paint or create is a matter of living, attempting to grip upon each moment. From the mid-1950s he joined the Gutai group and presented the iconic work “Paper Break Through” thrusting his body through several framed layers of paper and while this is usually positioned as a performance work, it may also be read as a search for the essence of painting, by breaking through the existing framework. This exhibition features a continuation of Paper Break Through’s questioning of painting as found in “All Possible Landscapes”, along with a selection of other painting works produced between 1958 to the late 1970s.
