For several years now, summer has heralded exhibitions of uchiwa fans in Kyoto. With people today losing touch with the seasons, this show is an opportunity to look back on lifestyles that appreciated the uchiwa fan as a feature of summer, exemplified by our Edo-period ancestors, who enjoyed a multifaceted culture of fans. Once again, all of the proceeds from this year’s show go to an NPO benefitting disaster-stricken areas.
