Artist Haruhiko Katayama states: When I make works of wood and lacquer, “symbiosis” is one of the themes of this self-expression. It often refers to the relationships of animals or bacteria, but in a wider sense it can extend to not only the global environment and the symbiosis between humans and nature considered central to it, but also the symbiosis between the human mind and creation.
