This event has ended.

The idea for “Noisy Silence” came suddenly to Takahashi while pondering what it means to communicate with the world. For instance, one might try to decipher an artwork in order to grasp its meaning. If information is shared easily between the artist and the viewer, both of their attempts are successful and communication is achieved. However, Takahashi is more interested in instances when this form of communication is not realized— times of confusion or tension when encountering unfamiliar works, or when one is led by a type of charm that cannot be put into words. Environments and perceptions that can be readily understood are of little importance to him. He believes in perceiving moments when dialogue breaks down and one is dragged into the realm of the uninterpretable, thereby left with an overwhelming sense of disorientation at this failure of “communication.” He feels that to pursue and depict these moments is equivalent to drawing clear boundaries between the sky and the universe.
