Continuing to question the very definition of nihonga Takeshi Tanaka here presents a series of work formulated around the desires of the night, including his “Sixteen Erotic Figures” series, which reflects Tanaka’s quintessential dynamism between nighonga techniques and Western painting motifs. Here he engulfs us in the darkness of the night when one’s earthly desires surface, and asks us to confront our cravings.
