Shoin, Ryoma, and the Shinsengumi— Heroes of the Bakufu Restoration
Ryozen Museum of History
This event has ended.
While Japan was being threatened by foreign powers during the late-Edo Bakufu period, a group of patriots rose up to protect the country. Some worked as Imperial spies in Kyoto, others laid down their lives in the service of the nation. Through their belongings and writings, this exhibition introduces some of these heroes, including Shoin Yoshida, Ryoma Sakamoto, and the Shinsengumi (special shogunate police force), examining their roles in the modernization of Japan.
