The popularity of paintings of flowers, birds, and scenery embodying the four seasons is indicative of Japan’s close proximity to nature. The exhibition has been divided into 2 parts, with the first half focusing on the expression of painters from the Edo to the Showa periods, with warm paintings of flowers, insects, birds, and fish. In the second half of this exhibition, the middle to late Edo period is represented with Chinese “Nanso Ga” paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, work by Chinese artist Shen Nanpin, and realist paintings from overseas.
