Ryuhei Matsuo creates painting influenced by the landscapes of his native Hokkaido. However, he does not simply portray the nature that surrounds him, but skillfully incorporates other worlds linked through media such as magazines and the internet. His works make us wonder what worlds these media open the doors to. “Tobira” (Door) is Matsuo’s first solo show in Kyoto. It introduces his ongoing landscape series, as well works from his “Faces” series featuring paintings of strangers.
