Banko Exhibition
Paramita Museum
This event has ended.
The first Banko was made in the mid 1700’s in Mie Prefecture by a powerful merchant, Nunami Rouzan. He hoped for his product’s spirits to live forever, and thus stamped “Banko Fueki” on his ceramic works. Nunami Rouzan’s strong interest in teaware led to the production of original designs with foreign influences, such as arabesque, and became very popular in the Edo Period.
Paramita Museum’s collection of 10,000 Banko-yaki antiques from the Edo to the Showa Era has received high national and international praise. 50 pieces from this collection has been chosen for this exhibition.
