These painters set out on their trip abroad with their individual desires and thoughts close to their hearts. Some ventured to the West to learn oil painting techniques, whilst others looked for exotic cityscapes and ways of living, not only in the West, but in countries such as Asia, Central America, and North Africa.
As “Etranger” or foreigners from Japan, a country with completely different culture and customs, these artists painted their surrounding scenery. This exhibition invites you on a trip to experience the foreign countries which charmed these particular artists.
