Cheburashka and the Artists of Russian Animation
Yokkaichi Municipal Museum
This event has ended.
The popular Russian character Cheburashka, a mysterious creature with large eyes, brown fur, and round eyes, first appeared in Eduard Uspensky’s children’s story, “Crocodile Gena and Friends”. In 1969 the story of Cheburashka, whose name means “toppling over”, was turned into a stop-motion puppet animation and became a huge hit in Russia for its innocent and earnest cuteness tinged with melancholy. Cheburashka also won many fans in Japan after being published in translation and then turned into a TV animation and movie. This exhibition displays Cheburashka original illustrations, sketches and storyboards from the animation process, dolls, stage props, and video. It also introduces other lesser-known Russian animations.
