This event has ended.

Norio Imai was an energetic member of the gutai (concrete) art association from when he joined in 1962 until it disbanded in 1972. However, around the group dissolved, he realized that that “there is nothing more to add to this overly concrete world”, turning from the white sculptures he had been working on to the immaterial medium of film. He also experimented with diverse ways to “visualize time”, including photography, which allowed him to carve out moments in time, film capturing the passage of time, and video capable of simultaneous playback. Focusing on his work from the 1970s, this exhibition offers a look back at Imai’s film and photography career over a roughly ten-year period.
