This event has ended.

While castles are symbols of military defense, their existence as form so of unique architecture has enchanted many painters. In the warring period of the Edo era artists depicted battles of the age, while others captured them as symbols of famed lands, or sought out romance in their ruins and beauty in their complex terracing of walls and roofing. This exhibition highlights the work of artists from the early modern era and their homages to the iconic fortresses as realized in Ukiyo-e, nihonga and oil painting. This exhibition is also accompanied by a showcase of work to commemorate 50 years since the death of nihonga artist Bisen Fukuda and his unique field of painting.
