So Shimada’s unique pictures overlay humorous pop art with a layer of nostalgia. Through a barrage of mixed images in works such as “The Meaning and Story of the Subject” and “Physical Properties of Paint,” Shimada attempts to find the true nature of pictures as physical substances and virtual images. Inclined toward an awareness of issues in perceiving the materiality of pictures, Shimada strives to bring out the appeal of pictures as objects. Kunst Arzt presents a selection of works chosen by Shimada, including new pieces as well as those exhibited in Osaka last year.
